A Bit of a Break

It's summer time.  Work is desparately busy.  I haven't been able too post much.  Given all that, I'm going to take a bit of a break.  For those interested, I will be back -- to update you on our website redesign project, our progress with podcasts and webinars, and our targeted business development efforts.  I'll share what works and, most useful, what doesn't.

But for now, I have to concentrate on that which pays the bills and these two cuties.

Like Trying to Pick Up Pretty Girls in an Ugly Car

The title of this post refers to how a young analyst of ours described the disconnect between our firm's current website and our reputation and abilities.  He was in Windsor, Ontario studying for the third and final level of the CFA program and he was bragging about Mercer Capital to all the other students there.  He shuddered when he knew that they would then go visit the website to find out more. 

He's right, of course.  Our current website does portray a disconnect.  All I could tell him is that we are working furiously to right the situation.  In our case, it's not as easy as just creating a sleek new professional look.  Sure, that's a large part of it.  But for our website redesign to be a success, we've got to get the functionality right.  That means it takes time. 

We've committed to having the new site up by the end of the year (hopefully by the end of the third quarter).  If we rush it and fail to lay the proper foundation, we'll have wasted our time and money.  And, then we'll still have to do it over again.  As I explained to this young analyst, that would be like trying to pick up pretty girls in a cool and classy sports car that doesn't crank.

Business Appraisers: 2006 USPAP is Coming

This is a post for all the business appraisers out there.  If you are unaware of some of the changes in the 2006 USPAP, which becomes effective July 1st, you should educate yourself because they affect you and your practice.
