I obviously haven't had time to post here but am taking a few minutes for a mini-rant ...
- Why would you craft a nice, attractive website and put none of the principals names in it?
- How can your name NOT come up in a Google search if you're an active professional?
- Why do you make it hard for me (a potential client) to find you?
Okay, I'm done now. I feel better.
Obvious advice but apparently not everyone is heeding it: Google your name often to know if you indeed show up. This is also important to know who else with your name is showing up and doing things you wish they didn't do!
In addition, if you're a principal in a professional services firm, make sure I can find you easily on your website. Don't make me have to call your number and then listen to your after-hours office directory listing to find who I'm searching for.
Okay, now I really feel better. You can go back to what you were doing.
This is a very important and inexpensive piece of advice many fail to do. Especially seeing who else pops up with your name. Many talented professionals have names similar to felons or people running support groups for schizophrenics. (Yes, true.) You definitely want to know where you rank and with whom! This can be easily overcome by registering with social media such as linkedin and facebook with powerful search engines which propel the information about yourself which you want seen higher up.
