Marketing in a Recession - Inbound vs. Traditional Methods

This presentation from Hubspot is old (2009) but much of it is still good.

Inbound marketing, or drawing prospects to you via content marketing and SEO, is all the rage in marketing today.

It's amusing to me because many professional services firms have been using some form of the content marketing strategy for decades. Most firms were not as strategic as the good folks at Hubspot would have liked if they had been around then, but then again, it's only fairly recently that we've been able to leverage information efficiently. I remember when bulletin boards on this new technology called the internet were the way to go. I guess that makes me old (and I'm not even 50 yet.) The point is that we sometimes take for granted where we are in terms of connectability today and we shouldn't. It provides an amazing opportunity if approached correctly.

So, all that being said, there is much good in inbound marketing - especially for firms that have a tight marketing budget and no marketing staff. Take a look and I'll bet you get a few ideas.

LinkedIn Has a Security Flaw That Might Leave You Vulnerable to Hacking

According to Andrew Parker of IntaForensics, who is guest posting on MarketingProfs.com:

"A security flaw on popular networking site LinkedIn has left accounts wide open to hackers, according to online security researcher Rishi Narang.

He claims that LinkedIn is keeping cookies active for too long, which means that anyone who can get access to the file (particularly on a Wi-Fi network) can easily gain access to a user’s account. Narang reported this finding on his own blog."

If you're using a wireless connection, which are notorius for their less than stellar security, follow Mr. Parker's advice to:

1. Use passwords
2. Use the SSID name
3. Enable CPA encryption
4. Enable a firewall
5. Switch off (the wireless router)

THEN, manually delete LinkedIn cookies after each visit to keep yourself safe from LinkedIn hacking.
